The purpose of this advertisement is to persuade people to quit smoking. This was created by the Cancer Patient Aid Association and it depicts people looking up as if from a grave. It is meant to be shocking and present the audience with a serious and deep message about the risks and dangers of smoking. The audience is people that smoke or people that know smokers. This mode of this is print advertisement and the internet. This could be incorporated into an essay piece or a commercial of people seeing this in person and the responses which would be influential. Pathos is used in this advertisement as it attempts to make people feel emotional if they smoke, it makes them feel guilty and nervous about the effects of their choices and reminds them that it can cause cancer and other negative health effects which can eventually lead to death. It is meant to be a powerful message and hit deep with smokers. By looking up and seeing people looking down on them, it makes them think of their loved ones or the people that they would hurt if they died. This advertisement is extremely persuasive towards people that smoke and is advertised in a way that creates emotion in the viewer.
